Oboe and English horn

Jordan's love of music came at an early age when she fell in love with Mozart operas; dancing, singing and acting out scenes from The Magic Flute. This passion for musical storytelling is the foundation for her oboe playing and teaching.

Jordan plays 2nd oboe/English horn with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed as Principal oboe of the Las Colinas Symphony in Irving, TX and has performed with numerous ensembles including the Dallas Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra and more.

With a love for teaching, Jordan has taught oboe lessons and group masterclasses with several school districts in the Dallas area. During her three years in Dallas, she has worked with over 40 students, ranging from beginner level to high school seniors. Her students have consistently demonstrated success on the instrument, including placements in the TMEA high school region and area bands, as well as middle school region bands. She has continued lessons through the COVID-19 pandemic, using Google Meets and has experience planning and executing both private and group classes with virtual solutions.

Jordan graduated in 2019 with a Masters of Music in oboe performance at Southern Methodist University, studying with Erin Hannigan. She was the 2016 Presser Scholar at the University of Colorado Boulder and graduated with her Bachelors of Music in 2017 with highest honors, studying with Peter Cooper. While at CU, she completed an undergraduate research assistantship with Dr. Kris Shaffer (Ph.d) on The Lieder Project: Exploring Poetry and Music through Computer Assisted Statistical Modeling. This project was funded by a grant from the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. She also presented work on musical performance at the Special Undergraduate Enrichment Programs Scholars Conference.

A strong believer in giving back, Jordan, a Chinese adoptee, volunteers with Adopteen at the Park Adoption Community Center. She served as committee leader for the first virtual camp-conference in July 2020 and was a chapter coordinator of the Adopteen Plano Chapter. In these roles, Jordan provides mentoring and community building events for adoptees to foster fellowship, celebration, and pride in our stories.
